Welcome Texas Association of Student Council members!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients® program is a Texas state-approved service learning project that is easy to implement in your school. With this fun project, students have the opportunity to learn about blood cancers and the importance of community involvement, while helping to raise vital funds for cancer research and patient aid services. First, schools elect a coordinator to oversee the program. The Society will provide all the materials necessary to conduct the program, and communicate regularly with the coordinator to ensure success. Schools simply choose any three-week period between the months of January and April to conduct Pennies. During this time, students actively collect spare change and dollars from friends, neighbors and parents. The Society provides a curriculum for optional teaching aids and several easy ways to jumpstart the program, including school assemblies.
Classrooms compete to earn pizza or pasta parties provided by the Society, as well as gift certificates for school supplies, electronics and more. To get started, choose The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society chapter that's nearest you by clicking on the map to the left or use the zipcode lookup tool. |
