During the 2008/2009 Pennies for Patients Campaign, students from over 450 schools in the Greater Sacramento/Northern Nevada Areas collected pennies and other spare change to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and make a difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancers. Together they raised over $310,000 to help find better treatments and cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma - a true testament that kids can make a difference and bring hope and help to others. What is Pennies for Patients? Pennies for Patients® is a nationwide campaign, in which more than 10 million elementary, middle and high school students participate throughout the country. Locally, schools in more than 35 counties across Northern California and Northern Nevada participate in the Sacramento Pennies Campaign every year. Click here for a list of Greater Sacramento Area Chapter Counties. Pennies for Patients gives students the opportunity to collect spare change in honor of a local blood cancer patient. Students learn the story of their special local honored hero, which personalizes their efforts and aids in the development of caring for others. The funds, collected during a three-week period, benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Everyone who participates is a winner! During the program, students strive to reach school fundraising goals, and classrooms can compete against each other to raise the most money. In Greater Sacramento, the Top Fundraising Classrooms in Pennies for Patients schools win a classroom party. Click here for a complete list of Prizes and Incentives. The 2009 program is over, and we are now registering schools for participation in 2010! Click here to sign up your school, and to start saving lives...one penny at a time!
