Welcome Texas Association of Student Council members!
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients® program is a Texas state-approved service learning project that is easy to implement in your school. With this fun project, students have the opportunity to learn about blood cancers and the importance of community involvement, while helping to raise vital funds for cancer research and patient aid services. Last year, over 300 South, Central & West Texas schools joined the Pennies for Patients program, raising over $200,000 for the Society. These funds help the Society advance our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Getting Started First, schools elect a coordinator to oversee the program. The Society will provide all the materials necessary to conduct the program, and communicate regularly with the coordinator to ensure success. Schools simply choose any three-week period between the months of January and March to conduct Pennies. During this time, students actively collect spare change and dollars from friends, neighbors and parents. The Society provides a curriculum for optional teaching aids and several easy ways to jumpstart the program, including school assemblies. Classrooms compete to earn pizza parties provided by the Society, as well as gift certificates for school supplies, electronics and more. Registration is easy with our convenient online registration form. Or, for more information please call the South Texas Chapter office at (210) 377-1775 or (800) 683-2458, ext. 127 or 110. |
