Educators Frequently Asked Questions What is an Honored Hero? Honored Heroes are local student survivors of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. They make the Pennies program more personal and unite the school for a common cause. Can we donate more than just pennies? YES! Nickels, dimes, quarters, bills and checks (made payable to LLS, Inc.) are gratefully accepted. Can we give our donations directly to a local family? None of the funds raised on behalf of LLS can be earmarked for a particular patient. All patients are eligible for our Patient Financial Aid program, which can reimburse families up to $150 per year in certain treatment-related expenses. Where does the money go? Donations go to fund blood cancer research and patient services. Click here for more information. Who should checks be made out to? Checks should be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or LLS. How do we turn in our money? Talk to your school's program coordinator to find out how your school is processing donations. What can my class win? Please see the list of your program's prizes and incentives, and check with your school's program coordinator to find out what your school has chosen to offer.
