Parents FAQ Can we donate more than pennies? Yes! Nickels, dimes, quarters, bills, checks, and online credit card donations are all accepted. Who should checks be made out to? Checks should be payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or LLS. Do the funds we donate go directly to a local family? None of funds that are raised on behalf of LLS are designated for a particular patient. All patients are eligible for our Patient Financial Aid Program, which can reimburse families up to $150 per year for expenses related to treatment. How do I make a donation online? Select the button on the Web site that says "Donate to a Local School," then select your school's name from the dropdown menu. If you do not see the Donate button or if your school's name does not appear, please contact the School & Youth staff. I heard there were prizes that schools can win. What are those and is my child's school eligible? The School & Youth Programs award various prizes and incentives. For information on what those are, please see the Prizes & Incentives list or contact the local LLS chapter. However, not every school chooses to participate for prizes. The decision to offer prizes to students and how the prizes are awarded is up to the school's administration and program coordinator. Please ask your child's teacher, the school's program coordinator or school administration for more information. What is an Honored Hero? Honored Heroes are local student survivors of leukemia or lymphoma who have agreed to share their story with schools in the community. They have elected to participate in the School & Youth programs to provide inspiration to the students collecting donations and to say thank you for working towards a cure. For many of the honored heroes still going through treatment, having students fundraising in their honor is a source of encouragement and support during a difficult time. Can my child contact the school's honored hero? Yes! Students can send a letters or pictures to your school's honored hero through your local LLS chapter. Simply address the letter to your school's honored hero and send it to your local LLS Chapter.
